A Much Beta Way

Walking is more fun in UP than in any other place I know. This is because we have a lot of trees in the university. Although the climate has gotten hotter, the trees make walking bearable. A place I’d like to take note of, however, is the Beta Epsilon Way. It is the 240-meter long concrete walkway that the Beta Epsilon Fraternity built within the Academic Oval, cutting through it. The Beta Way connects the College of Engineering to the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, making it convenient for Engineering students to go to their social science classes. But that’s not all Beta Way is for me. I think that it provides the best view for seeing the greenery that UP has to offer, because I recently learned in my STS class that UP Diliman is the last green space in Metro Manila that is open to the public. After passing by AS Parking Lot, you will be surrounded by this greenery that I’m talking about. The trees found along Beta Way are Narra and Baguilumbang; the latter of which is a critically endangered species that we have in UP! Venturing to the right will bring you to the Sunken Garden and going left brings you to the Lagoon. There is a sort of small bridge in the Beta Way where two people can sit at the opposite sides, but this will be bothersome to passers-by. I‘ve always thought of that as a romantic scene though. Nevertheless, this path is a leisurely short walk. So if you must cross from AS to the other side of the Acad Oval, make use of the Beta Way, the much better way.
